Changing wall color is one of the easiest and best ways to renew your space. It’s relatively inexpensive compared to the difference it makes, and is easy to modify in case you don’t like the end result.
However, to end up with a beautiful result, you must follow a number of key and important steps which we’ll mention in this article to make sure your painting project is successful.
Step 1: Start Planning.
Start planning for your project. Ask yourself how you want the room to look like in the end, what are the colors you want to use, do you prefer your wall with a gloss or matt finish, do you want your wall to have a solid color or a decorative look, do you want to paint the ceiling or not, and many other considerations so that you are as prepared as possible when choosing and buying your paint.
Step2: Pick your color:
Picking the right color is one of the most important steps in painting. It does not depend solely on how beautiful the color looks. The color should also match your personal taste, furniture color, type of lighting, and how much sunlight enters the room. All these factors should be considered to create harmony between the elements of the room and its wall color.
Some people are afraid to buy a color before trying it first, even after seeing it on the color wheel. That is why we created the color Visualizer tool on our website, which enables you to see how the color would look like on the wall. See how you can use Visualizer. Visualizer will provide you with a realistic visualization of the color on the room walls, with the ability to change between night time and day time to see how the color changes between the two periods.

Step 3: Determine How Much Paint You Need
Determining the appropriate amount of paint needed depends on the type of paint and its spread rate on the surface of the wall. Some paints have a lower spread rate while others have a higher one.
However, we have made this process easier for you. You can know exactly how much paint you need simply by using our Paint Calculator tool on our website. Click on the type of paint. and then follow the steps shown in this video to determine the amount of paint you need. You just have to type in the length, width, and height of your room in addition to the numbers of doors and windows, and the Paint Calculator will tell you exactly how much paint you’ll need.
step 4: Get Your Paint and Tools
Usually, the tools used with paints are similar. However, some types of paints require special tools to apply, so you should familiarize yourself with the tools used with the type of paint you picked. Here, we’ll mention the tools and the method of paint for most solid color paints such as our Novel Paint and Green Paint. The paint tools you’ll need are:
1. Paint roller
Recommend Rollers:
Nardeen Paint Roller for solid paints
Norseen Paint Roller for Epoxy paints
2. Roller extension stick
3. Paint brush
Recommend Brushes:
Decorative brushes for all decorative paints like Khayal, Rawa and Ebaa “Each product has it’s own brush”
4. Mixing stick
5. Paint tray
6. Sand paper
7. Adhesive tape
8. Nylon bag
Step 5: Prepare the Room for Painting.
Your goal is to paint the room walls, but you don’t want to stain the floor and furniture as well. So, you should prepare the room before you start painting. Here are the steps you need to follow to prepare the room for painting:
1.Move the furniture to the middle of the room so that you can have enough space to move freely while painting the wall.
2.Cover all furniture with a plastic drop cloth to protect it from paint stains. Use the drop cloth to cover the entire floor and secure it at the edges with masking tape.
3.Use the masking tape to cover any surface which you don’t want to be painted, such as electrical plugs, light switches, door edges, windows, the edges of the ceiling and floor. This way you make sure you get a clean, professional paint job.
4.Keep the place well ventilated by opening the windows so the odor doesn’t harm or bother you or others. You could also turn off the air conditioner and open a fan to help minimize the paint odor. It is still the best to choose an odorless paint, such as Novel Paint.
5.Start preparing your wall by fixing any nail holes or cracks on your wall’s surface. You can easily fix and conceal them yourself using a putty and a putty knife.
6.Once you’ve fixed the wall problems, make sure the putty is dry before moving on to the painting process or move on to the next step directly in case your wall has no problems to fix.
Step 6: Start the Painting Process.
1.Sand the entire wall using sand paper.
2.Clean the sanding residue off the wall using a dry cloth or a vacuum cleaner.
3.Use a primer suitable for your paint type. If you are using our Novel or Green paint, we recommend our Green Prime as your primer coat. Applying a primer is an essential step prior to applying the color on your walls. It helps the color stick better and last longer in addition to hiding any small imperfections as well as sucking out the moisture from the wall and preventing it from moving to and affecting your final paint coat.
4.Start by applying the primer to the edges of the door, walls, and windows using a paint brush.
5.Use a paint roller to finish the rest of the wall. It is preferable to use a roller extension pole to paint the upper area of the walls.
6.Paint the wall from top to bottom, preferably in a W shape from left to right or vice versa.
7.After the primer coat has dried, dilute the paint you’ve chosen. This depends on the type of your paint. If you are using our Novel Paint or Green Paint, dilute it by adding 10 to 15% of water. If you are using another type of paint, check the technical specifications of your product to know how you can dilute it.
8.Mix your paint well using a mixing stick until it’s completely combined.
9.Paint the color you’ve chosen in the same way as the primer, starting with the edges then the rest of the wall.
10.Do not forget to apply the recommended number of coats of the paint you’ve chosen, taking into consideration the waiting time between coats. You can verify this information by checking your product’s technical specifications.
Step 7: Clean Up.
We have reached the most enjoyable part, there is little left to do to reveal the final result that’ll be worth all the effort.
Start cleaning the place. Get rid of your paint stained clothes or set them aside for another painting challenge. For the paint tools, you can keep them after thorough cleaning or dispose of them if you want. If you wish to keep the tools, make sure to clean the tools according to the appropriate method used for your paint type, whether it’s oil-based or water-based. In most cases, alcohol based cleaners or a thinner will help remove the paint easier. Lastly, remove all protective plastic and masking tape.
Finally, it is the time to celebrate your achievement, grab a cup of tea and enjoy your room’s new look.
How long does it take to paint a room?
The time it takes to finish painting a room depends on its size and the type of paint used. The most important advice is not to rush it. Take your time before making any decisions, and work carefully to achieve a satisfying result.
